Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12th! This is the official launch date for Doctor Who season 12. Fans in the UK can dive into the new episodes bright and early at 8am on BBC iPlayer, and for those who prefer traditional viewing, it will also air later that day on BBC One. International viewers, don’t worry – you can join the Doctor and Belinda’s escapades simultaneously on Disney+, where available, ensuring a global premiere for this exciting new season of Doctor Who season 12.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Season 12 is set to feature a truly unique guest star: the Emmy Award-winning Alan Cumming. He will be stepping into the shoes, or perhaps cartoon frame, of Mr Ring-a-Ding in the second episode. This isn’t just any character; Mr Ring-a-Ding is described as a “happy, funny, singalong cartoon” residing in Sunny Town with Sunshine Sally. However, this cheerful facade hides a darker twist. After decades of cinematic repeats in 1952, Mr Ring-a-Ding begins to perceive the real world beyond the screen, leading to terrifying and unforeseen consequences. This promises a storyline filled with suspense, humor, and the signature Doctor Who blend of wonder and fear.

Showrunner Russell T Davies couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for this casting choice, stating, “Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger and fun. He makes the whole universe of Doctor Who wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honour to welcome him on board the TARDIS.” This endorsement sets the stage for a memorable and perhaps villainous performance from Cumming, adding another layer of intrigue to Doctor Who season 12.

Alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu, season 12 will also see the return of Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, continuing the adventures established in the previous season. Furthermore, a stellar cast of guest stars will enrich this season, including Rose Ayling-Ellis, Anita Dobson, Christopher Chung, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, and Susan Twist. This ensemble cast ensures a season packed with diverse characters and compelling narratives.
