Important Closure Dates:
Please be aware that The BIRD Clinic will be closed on the following dates due to Dr. Nemetz’s professional engagements:
- Saturday, March 15, 2025, through Sunday, March 30, 2025 – Dr. Nemetz will be attending a conference in the UK and assisting Kitty/Kanine Koller as an Exhibitor.
- Sunday, June 01, 2025, through Sunday, June 15, 2025 – Dr. Nemetz will be participating in an educational exchange program with colleagues in Brazil.
Scheduling Appointments and Clinic Policies
The BIRD Clinic is currently accepting appointments for all avian cases. However, due to an increased demand for specialized bird doctors and a reduction in avian veterinary services offered by other clinics in Southern California (2024), our schedule is quite full. This may result in appointment wait times exceeding one week for non-emergency cases. We understand this can be challenging, especially when your bird is unwell.
To ensure we can accommodate as many patients as possible and provide timely care to those who urgently need it, we have implemented permanent policies regarding appointment no-shows and short-notice cancellations. These policies, in effect since mid-2021, are crucial for preventing disruptions to our schedule and ensuring fair access to care for all pet birds.
Appointment Policy:
- All new and existing clients are expected to arrive within 10 minutes of their scheduled appointment time.
- Cancellations require a minimum of 24 hours’ advance notice.
Failure to adhere to these policies, including no-shows or cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, will unfortunately result in the termination of services at The BIRD Clinic for you and your pet bird. This measure is necessary as missed appointments prevent us from offering care to other birds in need. Regrettably, the number of clients affected by this policy now exceeds 228.
Walk-ins and Emergencies:
Please note that we DO NOT accept walk-in appointments or emergencies without prior phone approval. If you have an emergency, please call us first to determine the best course of action.

Prescription Refills:
For prescription refills, please contact us at least 24 hours (one full business day) in advance. Many of our prescriptions are custom compounded specifically for your bird’s needs, requiring sufficient time for preparation.

We understand that you may need veterinary care when The BIRD Clinic is closed. Finding veterinarians experienced with birds can be challenging. While we strive to be available, we recommend the following veterinarians for avian care when our clinic is closed:
