As 2025 draws to a close, it’s time to delve into some of the coolest collectibles from the holiday season. Among the treasures gifted by family, the Amazon exclusive Marvel Legends Series set featuring Wong, Bats, and Doctor Strange stands out. While my recent collecting focus has leaned towards X-Men and mutant-related figures, the allure of Hasbro’s premium Marvel releases is undeniable, and this set, spotlighting Wong Doctor Strange and a spectral canine companion, was high on my wishlist. Hasbro has consistently delivered top-tier figures, and this set promised something special, particularly for a Doctor Strange enthusiast and someone longing for a definitive comic-accurate Wong figure.
Marvel Legends Wong Doctor Strange and Bats set, an Amazon exclusive, perfect for fans and collectors.
While Benedict Wong’s portrayal of Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is beloved and the movie figure was well-received, the comic book version of Wong has been a long-awaited addition to the Marvel Legends line. It’s remarkable that it took over two decades for a comic-inspired Wong figure to materialize outside of film adaptations. Wong’s significance in the Marvel universe as Doctor Strange’s confidante and a master of the mystic arts is undeniable. Adding to the intrigue of this set is Bats, a character new to me but instantly appealing – a ghost Basset Hound. The concept of spectral sidekicks resonates deeply, especially for those who’ve cherished and lost pets. A new comic-accurate Doctor Strange, the definitive comic Wong, and Bats the ghost dog? This set is truly a collector’s dream! Let’s delve into the details of each figure.

- Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, double hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball jointed hips, ball-jointed torso, swivel/ hinge shoulders w/lateral pec hinges, bicep swivels, double hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, and a barbell jointed head.

Wong, in this Marvel Legends iteration, is truly exceptional. His appearance is distinctly classic, perfectly embodying the comic book aesthetic that fans have been waiting for. This figure is dressed in what appears to be a Tang suit (Tangzhuang), a traditional Chinese jacket, which is sharply sculpted and seemingly unique to this release. The green suit with yellow cuffs and gold fasteners offers a sophisticated yet practical look, complete with meticulously sculpted folds that emphasize the loose, flowing nature of the fabric. While less flamboyant than his MCU counterpart’s attire, this Tang suit is fitting for Wong’s role as a martial artist, allowing for uninhibited movement crucial for a master of his caliber.

In contemporary comics, Wong is often depicted as younger. This figure, however, portrays a more mature, middle-aged, and seasoned Wong. His expression is intense, with significant sculpted detail in his face, further enhanced by excellent face printing. Wong’s eyebrows are particularly noteworthy, adding immense character and gravitas to his appearance. The sleeves of the Tang suit are a clever design element, featuring a recessed wrist with a separate piece attached inside, creating a layered and realistic look.

Wong’s articulation is truly impressive, allowing for a wide range of motion with minimal hindrance. All joints are tight, smooth, and pinless, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal. Whether posing him in dynamic martial arts stances or mystical spellcasting gestures using the included magical effects, Wong is capable of incredibly expressive poses.

Wong comes with a generous selection of six interchangeable hands: grappling “Tiger’s Claw” style hands, standard gripping hands, and unique “snapping” gesture hands. While standard fists are absent, the variety offered is excellent, and suitable fists can likely be sourced from other Marvel Legends figures. Additionally, Wong includes two magical chakra hands, reminiscent of the MCU portrayal, molded in translucent yellow and orange plastic with intricate detailing. These chakra hands, possibly reused from previous MCU Wong or Doctor Strange figures, add a fantastic visual element, especially when paired with dynamic martial arts poses.
Bats: The Spectral Sidekick
Marvel Legends Bats figure, a translucent ghost Basset Hound with included floating stand.
Bats, despite being listed on the box and packaged with Wong, functions primarily as an accessory for Wong. This diminutive (1 1/2 inches tall), non-articulated minifigure is a unique and charming addition to the Marvel Legends line – a glowing green ghost Basset Hound. In a line with thousands of figures, a ghost dog is a novel and welcome inclusion. Bats is undeniably cute, featuring floppy ears, droopy jowls, and a small tail, capturing the endearing qualities of the breed even in spectral form. The translucent green plastic with a gradient effect, transitioning from pale paws to a darker green head, is visually striking and enhances his ghostly appearance. A small paint application for Bats’ nose adds a touch of detail. Bats comes with a simple clear stand allowing him to “float” alongside Wong.
Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme, Updated

Moving onto Doctor Strange, while he retains his classic primary color scheme, this iteration presents a darker palette compared to previous figures. The symbol on his tunic is more prominent, rendered in a grey with a hint of blue. The Cloak of Levitation is newly sculpted and, while not removable (being integrated with the Eye of Agamotto), it is positioned perfectly and adds a dramatic flair to the figure. The head sculpt is unique, representing a modern Doctor Strange, with hair that is less reminiscent of the 1970s comic era than the previous figure. The paintwork is consistently solid, but the eyes are particularly striking, featuring an unusual reddish-gold color, adding an otherworldly touch.

Articulation-wise, Doctor Strange is on par with standard Marvel Legends figures, featuring pinless joints that are solid and allow for extensive posing. He is stable and fun to pose, though the tunic slightly restricts hip movement, it’s not overly intrusive. The legs feel more robust than the previous release, which suffered from rubbery legs, and this Doctor Strange stands confidently, even with the weight of his cloak. Similar to Wong, Doctor Strange includes two magical chakra hands, molded in purple plastic with a subtle color gradient that enhances their visual appeal.

A notable bonus inclusion is an alternate Dormammu head, intended for the standalone Dormammu figure released in the Super Villains series. While the sculpt is the same, the flames are lighter, and the mask is darker, creating a more striking contrast compared to the original Dormammu figure. The set also includes Dormammu’s barbed black crown, a removable accessory that adds to the menacing aesthetic. The Cloak of Levitation on this Doctor Strange figure is a definite upgrade, with cleaner paint, refined edge details, and an overall improved shape.
Minor Drawbacks

Despite the overall excellence, there are minor shortcomings. A wired, soft goods cape for Doctor Strange would have elevated this set significantly. Considering Hasbro’s advancements in soft goods in other lines and even some newer Marvel Legends releases, a wired cape would have been a welcome premium feature, especially when compared to competitors like McFarlane Toys, who often include wired capes at similar or lower price points. Additionally, a minor quality control issue was encountered with the Doctor Strange figure, where the glue on the left forearm came undone during hand swapping. While easily rectified with glue, it’s a point to note.
Final Verdict: A Great and a Half Set
Marvel Legends Wong Doctor Strange and Bats set, a must-have for collectors seeking comic-accurate figures.
This Marvel Legends set is truly impressive. While both figures are strong releases, Wong, accompanied by Bats, is undoubtedly the highlight. The set’s value is amplified by the inclusion of Bats and the Dormammu head, offering more accessories than some recent barebones 2-packs. Despite minor nitpicks, this set earns a “Great and a 1/2” rating. It introduces two significant comic book characters (or updated comic versions) to the Marvel Legends line. While Amazon sales may surface periodically, this set is well worth acquiring at its regular price for fans of Wong Doctor Strange, Marvel Comics, and high-quality action figures. This review marks the first time Bats has been featured on this blog, further emphasizing the unique appeal of this set.
