Hello! I’m Jill Corbin, widely known as The Good Doctor, and I’m passionate about helping high school students like you navigate the often complex journey of post-secondary education. For over six years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding hundreds of students from diverse academic backgrounds and learning styles towards successful futures after graduation. My approach is built on providing expert, yet easily understandable, advice and support to help you identify the best options for your unique path.
Extensive Experience in College Admissions and Transition
My dedication to college admissions and student transition is rooted in nearly a decade of experience within higher education institutions. My career spans across various types of universities, giving me a comprehensive understanding of the landscape. From a two-year professional graduate school to a small, private, Catholic liberal arts university, and a large, public, four-year research university, I’ve seen it all. Starting as a “Director of First Impressions,” I progressively expanded my roles to include admission counselor, marketing and communications specialist, campus visit coordinator, and ultimately, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. This rich and varied background allows me to offer unparalleled insights into the college admissions process.
Now, as The Good Doctor, I leverage this experience to work directly with students and their families. I specialize in demystifying the often overwhelming process of college selection, application submission, essay writing, scholarship applications, financial aid acquisition, and all the crucial steps in between. My goal is to make this journey clear, manageable, and even exciting for you.
A Natural Talent for Student Counseling
There’s a deep sense of fulfillment I find in working closely with my students to help them uncover their potential futures. Whether that involves exploring gap year opportunities, aiming for a four-year university, seeking scholarship possibilities, accessing academic support programs, or considering two-year colleges, my commitment to providing exceptional service is unwavering. I firmly believe in the golden rule, and that’s why I approach every student’s situation as if it were my own. By stepping into your shoes, I can truly understand the specific support and guidance that will be most beneficial for each individual client.
Personal Educational Journey and Credentials
My own educational journey began in Ponca City, Oklahoma. From kindergarten through high school, my father’s daily encouragement, “Study hard so you can get into the college of your choice, which is the University of Oklahoma,” instilled in me the value of higher education. While his persistence was strong, the choice was ultimately mine, and I embraced it wholeheartedly.
The college application process in 1998 was considerably different from today’s digital landscape. Nevertheless, I enthusiastically chose the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Film & Video Studies with a minor in African/African-American Studies in 2003, followed by a Masters in Human Relations in 2005. Driven by a desire to further my expertise, I obtained a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas. I am also proud to be a member of the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners and a graduate of the College Counseling certificate program from UCLA Extension, continually enhancing my skills and knowledge to better serve my students as The Good Doctor.
