At the heart of this commitment are dedicated Sports Doctors who serve as the Medical Director and Head Team Physician, ensuring every athlete receives expert medical guidance.
The Stetson University Sports Medicine team is a comprehensive unit, overseen by Medical Director Dr. Trai Shinn M.D., and Head Team Physician, Dr. Mark Hollmann. These experienced sports doctors lead a broad network of healthcare professionals, including board-certified family and sports medicine physicians, and a strong collaboration with specialized orthopedic surgeons. Furthermore, a partnership with AdventHealth provides an on-site physical therapist, enhancing the rehabilitation services available to athletes. Supporting the medical staff are 10 full-time certified athletic trainers and certified strength and conditioning specialists, creating a holistic approach to athlete well-being.
This multidisciplinary team focuses on all aspects of sports medicine, from injury prevention and immediate recognition to effective management and complete rehabilitation. The ultimate goal is to optimize the physical performance of each student-athlete while prioritizing their personal healthcare needs. The presence of dedicated sports doctors on staff signifies the university’s commitment to providing the highest level of medical expertise in collegiate sports.
Stetson’s Sports Medicine Services are conveniently located in two primary facilities: the Wilson Athletic Center and the Athletic Training Center. The Wilson Athletic Center features a 2,000 square-foot facility, primarily serving indoor sports, while the Athletic Training Center offers a slightly larger 2,010 square-foot space focused on outdoor sports. Satellite athletic training rooms are also strategically positioned at the Patricia Wilson Softball Field, Melching Field at Conrad Park, and Spec Martin Football Stadium, ensuring readily accessible healthcare for athletes across various sporting venues. These facilities are designed and equipped to support the sports doctors and athletic trainers in delivering prompt and effective care.
