Growing up in Gambia, West Africa, a region with significant healthcare challenges, Dr. Ceesay discovered her profound calling to women’s health. Witnessing firsthand the struggles women faced due to limited healthcare access ignited a fire in her. She observed the tragic loss of young women during childbirth, the lack of reproductive choices for girls, and the emotional toll of fertility issues and pregnancy loss on families. Furthermore, she recognized the often-overlooked healthcare needs of older women within her community. These formative experiences were pivotal in shaping Dr. Ceesay’s dedication to obstetrics and gynecology and ultimately led her to join MacArthur OBGYN Doctors to make a broader impact.
Dr. Ceesay’s pursuit of medical excellence led her to the United States, where she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and her medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School. Throughout her rigorous academic journey, she consistently earned accolades, demonstrating her exceptional talent and commitment. Her awards include the Rising Star Award from Methodist Charlton Medical Center Emergency Department in 2012, the President’s Achievement Scholarship Award from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2013, and the Dean’s Scholarship Award from the Medical College of Wisconsin from 2015 to 2019. Continuing her streak of achievement in recent years, Dr. Ceesay has garnered further recognition within the medical community. She received the Clinical Learning Environment Award from Dell Medical School in 2022, the Best Poster Presentation award at the UT Austin Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health Resident Research Day in 2021, the Resident Award from the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology in 2022, and the DEI Award from the UT Austin Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health in 2023.
