Dr. Mishra’s journey in optometry began with a strong foundation in science, earning her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2017. Driven by a passion for eye care, she continued her education at UAB, obtaining her Doctorate of Optometry in 2021. Her rigorous academic background is complemented by practical experience gained through diverse clinical settings.
During her optometry studies, Dr. Mishra completed a significant externship at the Montgomery Veterans Affairs Clinic. There, she honed her skills in providing comprehensive eye care to veterans, addressing a wide range of ocular diseases. This experience instilled in her a deep understanding of complex eye conditions and the importance of personalized patient care. Furthermore, Dr. Mishra actively participated in telehealth initiatives, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to expanding access to quality eye care.
Dr. Mishra also served as a student clinician at the UAB School of Optometry clinics. This role allowed her to provide individualized treatment to patients across various specialty clinics. Her rotations included focused training in Myopia Control, Specialty Contact Lenses, Vision Therapy, Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, and Sports-Related Concussion Clinic. This broad exposure has equipped her with expertise in numerous areas of optometry, making her a versatile and knowledgeable eye doctor for the Dothan community.
Beyond her clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Mishra demonstrated remarkable leadership and community involvement throughout her doctoral program. She held leadership positions in organizations such as Student Volunteers in Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH), the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA), and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) UAB Chapter. Her active membership in the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) further underscores her dedication to the field. Even during her undergraduate studies, she founded the Honors College Scholars Leadership Council, showcasing her commitment to mentorship and peer support.
Dr. Mishra’s dedication to excellence has been recognized through several honors and awards, including being named an AAO Student Fellow, and receiving the prestigious Dr. Aharon Sternberg Endowed Optometry Scholarship, and being recognized as an Honors College Scholar. As a native of Hoover, Alabama, Dr. Mishra is excited to be serving the Wiregrass region and has joined Vision Center South in Dothan in the summer of 2021. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, baking, and exploring local coffee shops.
