Dr. Workman completed a five-year orthopedic residency at Yale Medical School, followed by a prestigious orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston. During his time at Harvard, Doctor Workman gained invaluable experience as a team physician with the New England Patriots (NFL). This role was just the beginning of his extensive involvement with professional sports teams, extending to the Boston Bruins Hockey Club (NHL), the New England Revolution Soccer team (MLS), the U.S. Women’s Soccer team, and the Women’s Professional Tennis Tour (USTA), as well as Harvard University Athletics.
Currently, Doctor Workman holds the esteemed position of Head Team Physician for the Oakland Athletics (MLB) and serves as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery. His dedication also extends to the local community, as he has been the Team Physician for Acalanes High School in Lafayette, CA, for two decades. Throughout his career, starting from his residency and fellowship, Doctor Workman has been at the forefront of developing and refining arthroscopic surgical techniques. He also contributes to the field as a consultant for major international sports medicine corporations, engages in clinical research, and is an active member of prominent national and international sports medicine societies.
Maintaining his identity as an athlete, Doctor Workman actively participates in triathlons and cycling competitions. His impressive athletic achievements include completing four Ironman triathlons: Ironman Lake Tahoe (2013), Ironman Arizona (2017), Ironman Lake Placid (2018), and Ironman California (2023). In cycling, he has finished the challenging Death Ride multiple times (2008, 2009, 2012, 2015) and the demanding Leadville Trail 100 MTB (2022, 2023). He also enjoys participating in local races like the Escape from Alcatraz and Cyclocross events, further demonstrating his ongoing passion for athletic endeavors and his deep understanding of the athlete’s experience.
