Dr. Rebecca Rojas is a distinguished Instructor of Optometric Sciences at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, recognized for her exceptional expertise in optometry. Holding fellowships with both the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and the Scleral Lens Society (FSLS), Doctor Rojas specializes in the intricate realm of complex and medically necessary contact lens fittings. Her practice encompasses a broad spectrum of eye care, including the management of anterior segment diseases, collaborative care for cataract and refractive surgeries, and comprehensive primary eye care.
Dr. Rojas’s academic journey began with Bachelor’s degrees in Molecular and Microbiology, and Vision Science from the University of Central Florida and Nova Southeastern University respectively, culminating in a Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University. She further honed her skills through a residency in ocular disease at SUNY State College of Optometry, establishing a robust foundation in her field.
Before her current appointment at Columbia University, Doctor Rojas was instrumental in several leading eye care centers throughout New York. Her focus was on the co-management of both refractive and cataract surgeries, working closely with corneal specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Internationally, she served as a clinical optometrist at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Eye Institute. During this time, she specialized in specialty contact lenses and ocular surface diseases, broadening her global perspective and enriching her expertise. Furthermore, Doctor Rojas dedicated time to training and mentoring medical residents, contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals.
Beyond her clinical accomplishments, Doctor Rojas is committed to academia and professional development. She previously held the position of Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY, where she co-supervised the optometry residency program.
