Meet Doctor Goodman: Your Trusted Gastroenterology Expert in Brooklyn

From a young age, a desire to help others charted my course towards a career in medicine. This inherent drive led me to serve as a lifeguard during my teenage years. My fascination with the intricate workings of the human body and a hands-on approach to care naturally drew me to the field of gastroenterology during medical school. What I value most about this specialty is the ability to provide truly responsive care. Patients seek my expertise with a range of gastrointestinal issues, and I am dedicated to offering the necessary treatments to alleviate their discomfort and improve their health.

As the section chief for gastroenterology and hepatology at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, my primary focus is on treating individuals facing complex pancreatic and liver diseases. My expertise encompasses diagnosing cancers and masses affecting the pancreas and liver, performing stent placements to manage bile duct obstructions, and addressing a wide spectrum of general gastrointestinal concerns. Patients under my care benefit from a comprehensive and personalized approach to their digestive health.

A significant aspect of my practice involves endoscopic ultrasound, a cutting-edge procedure crucial for both the precise diagnosis and effective treatment of various conditions. I spearheaded the development of the endoscopic ultrasound program at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, launching it in December 2017. Since its inception, we have successfully treated over 100 patients annually, significantly enhancing the level of specialized care available to the Brooklyn community for complex gastrointestinal disorders. This program underscores my commitment to bringing advanced medical technologies and treatments to local residents.

Effective communication and transparency are at the heart of my patient interactions. Recognizing that medical information can often be overwhelming, I prioritize clear and open dialogue. My aim is to explain complex conditions and treatment options in easily understandable terms, ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout their healthcare journey. Building trust and fostering a strong doctor-patient relationship are paramount in my practice.

Beyond my clinical practice, I am actively involved in research to evaluate the effectiveness of innovative endoscopic technologies and therapeutic approaches for gastrointestinal conditions. Furthermore, I serve as the director of quality for the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, demonstrating my dedication to continuous improvement in healthcare delivery. My commitment to advancing the field extends to my active membership in prominent professional organizations. I am a past president of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, a Fellow of both the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology, and contribute to multiple committees within these organizations, all with the shared goal of enhancing gastrointestinal care standards and patient outcomes.
