Dr. Keith Boone is a highly respected bariatric surgeon with extensive experience and a commitment to patient care. A native of California’s Central Valley, his journey in medicine is marked by significant achievements in surgical innovation and education, making him a leader in the field of weight loss surgery.
After earning his bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara, Dr. Boone continued his medical education at the prestigious University Of Southern California School Of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery and then served in the United States Navy. His naval service included deployments as an aircraft carrier and battle group surgeon in the Persian Gulf, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure and in diverse environments. Further enriching his academic experience, Dr. Boone served as Assistant Clinical Professor in surgery at the University of California, Davis.
In 1996, Dr. Boone joined forces with Dr. Kelvin Higa, forming a powerful partnership that propelled advancements in bariatric surgery. Together, they pioneered the “hand-sewn” gastrojejunal anastomotic technique, a groundbreaking approach adopted by surgeons globally for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures. Dr. Boone’s expertise is recognized internationally as he frequently lectures on various aspects of weight loss surgery at both national and international conferences. His surgical skills have been showcased through live telesurgery demonstrations at numerous national conferences, further solidifying his reputation as a surgical innovator. He has also contributed significantly to the medical literature, authoring and co-authoring numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters focused on weight-loss surgery. Dr. Boone and Dr. Higa have collectively performed thousands of successful weight loss procedures, transforming countless lives.
Currently, Dr. Boone holds the distinguished position of Director of Fellowship Education for ALSA, a program accredited by the University of California San Francisco – Fresno Medical Education Program. He also serves as Associate Clinical Professor in Surgery at UCSF Fresno, shaping the next generation of surgeons.
Dr. Boone is Board Certified in general surgery and maintains active memberships in leading surgical societies, including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), designations that reflect his commitment to the highest standards of surgical excellence and patient care.
