An unlicensed Florida woman, known to her patients as “Duchess,” has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter after one of her patients died following a dangerous buttocks enhancement surgery. Oneal Ron Morris, dubbed the “Cement Doctor” due to the illicit substances she used, administered injections of cement, mineral oil, bathroom caulking, and even Fix-a-Flat tire sealant to enhance her clients’ figures. These illegal procedures tragically led to the death of 31-year-old Shatarka Nuby.
Nuby’s pursuit of a fuller figure led her to Morris, unaware of the deadly cocktail she would be injected with. Over several sessions between 2007 and 2011, Nuby received approximately ten injections from Morris. Before her untimely death in a Florida prison, Nuby bravely alerted the State Health Department, expressing grave concerns that Morris had injected harmful substances into her buttocks and hips. Her fears materialized as the injection sites began to harden and blacken, a horrifying testament to the toxic materials used. Medical examiners later determined Nuby’s cause of death to be “massive systemic silicone migration,” directly linked to the dangerous injections.
The details of Morris’s crude and dangerous practices are shocking. Nuby’s aunt, a witness to all of Nuby’s procedures, revealed that Morris would use superglue to seal the injection sites with cotton balls post-procedure. Further disturbing accounts from Nuby’s daughter detailed how Morris would wrap her in saran wrap before administering the injections. Another aunt reported seeing bottles of glue labeled “Home Depot” among Morris’s supplies, underscoring the blatant disregard for safety and hygiene.
Trenicia Jones, a friend of Nuby, also suffered at the hands of the “cement doctor.” Following a breast enhancement procedure by Morris, Jones required emergency surgery. Doctors were forced to remove a significant amount of “brown foreign substance” from her body, further illustrating the horrific nature of Morris’s methods and the devastating impact on her victims.
Charged in 2012 with manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license, Morris initially pleaded not guilty. However, facing overwhelming evidence and the tragic outcome of her actions, she eventually pleaded no contest to both charges last month. The arrest affidavit reveals a pattern of dangerous practices, indicating that Morris treated numerous patients over the years. Many of these victims have pursued legal action, filing lawsuits against Morris, with trials still ongoing, highlighting the widespread harm inflicted by the “cement doctor.”
This case serves as a stark and tragic reminder of the extreme dangers associated with unlicensed cosmetic procedures and black market surgeries. The pursuit of beauty should never come at the cost of one’s life. Individuals seeking cosmetic enhancements must prioritize their safety by choosing only licensed and qualified medical professionals. The “cement doctor” case underscores the critical importance of regulation and vigilance in the cosmetic surgery industry to protect vulnerable individuals from unqualified practitioners and potentially lethal procedures.
