In The Fugitive Doctor: Most Wanted, listeners will delve deeper into the compelling story of this mysterious Doctor, who operated as a secret agent for the shadowy Time Lord organization known as Division. Now on the run from her former employers, the Fugitive Doctor, portrayed with compelling energy by Jo Martin, finds herself in a thrilling race against time. Across three action-packed audio episodes, she must outwit relentless bounty hunters, confront a mythical Russian witch, and even face the Doctor’s iconic adversaries, the Daleks, voiced by the renowned Nicholas Briggs. Adding to the stakes, she is relentlessly pursued by Time Lord agent Cosmo, brought to life by the talented Alice Krige, celebrated for her chilling portrayal of the Borg Queen in the Star Trek universe.

Jo Martin expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the role in this new medium, stating, “Doing these audios has been super fun! There wasn’t enough time in the TV episodes to see all the different sides of the Fugitive Doctor. She’s gung-ho, but there’s a softer side to her. With these episodes, the listeners will hear her vulnerability, her kindness and her loyalties. She’s a lone wolf, and that can’t be easy.” Her words highlight the exciting prospect of exploring the Fugitive Doctor’s character in greater depth through the expansive storytelling possibilities of Big Finish Doctor Who.

Episode Breakdown of “The Fugitive Doctor: Most Wanted”

This Big Finish Doctor Who box set promises a diverse range of thrilling narratives, each episode offering a unique adventure for the Fugitive Doctor:

Fast Times by Robert Valentine

The opening episode, Fast Times, penned by Robert Valentine, plunges the Fugitive Doctor directly into danger. When Division attempts to recapture their rogue agent, the Doctor evades them, embarking on a quest for answers. However, trouble is an ever-present companion for a fugitive Time Lord. Captured by bounty hunters and imprisoned on a maximum-security hulk ship, the Doctor quickly learns that in her current predicament, standing still is not an option. Time, as the title suggests, is about to become a crucial factor in her survival.

The Legend of Baba Yaga by Rochana Patel

In The Legend of Baba Yaga, written by Rochana Patel, the Doctor’s desperate flight from the Time Lords leads her to 17th century Russia. Seeking assistance, she ventures into the realm of Slavic folklore to find the legendary witch, Baba Yaga. However, her attempt to enlist the witch’s aid entangles her in a classic Baba Yaga tale. The Doctor finds herself helping a young woman named Vasilisa, who needs to retrieve a burning ember to save her family from the harsh Russian winter. This episode blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, challenging the Doctor to discern truth from illusion in a race against time.

The Dimension of Lost Things by Lisa McMullin

Lisa McMullin’s The Dimension of Lost Things sees the TARDIS caught in a temporal anomaly while fleeing Cosmo. The Doctor finds herself stranded in a bizarre dimension inhabited by lost souls, including the historical mountaineer George Mallory and a scavenger named Athelia. Intriguingly, she also encounters another version of herself within this strange dimension. With Cosmo still in pursuit and memory-stealing winds threatening her very being, the Doctor realizes she is caught in an intricate trap. The question is, who set the trap, and can she possibly escape its grasp?

A Collaboration Blessed by Doctor Who’s Creative Team

Producer David Richardson shared his excitement about the project, stating, “This was an absolute treat to work on. The Fugitive Doctor is such a brilliant, head-turning twist in this amazing long-running show we all love, and script editor Robert Valentine and I had such fun making plans.” He further revealed the invaluable input from Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall, who “very generously gave up his time and met with us on Zoom while we threw around ideas and he gave us some clarifications about this most enigmatic era of Doctor Who.” This collaboration underscores the commitment to maintaining the integrity and richness of the Doctor Who universe within the Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas.

Richardson also praised Jo Martin’s performance, echoing Chibnall’s sentiments: “Chris told us that Jo was fantastic and a gorgeous person to work with, and he was absolutely right of course – she came into the studio full of joy for the part, always smiling, always brilliant and charismatic.” He concluded with a celebratory note: “The Fugitive Doctor now has her own audio series – and as the saying goes, it’s about time…”
