After completing her early education in New York’s public school system, Dr. Morales gained admission to Harvard University, a prestigious institution where she earned her A.B. degree in Biology. Driven by a passion for medicine, she pursued her medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, further solidifying her expertise in the medical field. Her commitment to comprehensive medical training led her to complete her residency in Internal Medicine at the esteemed Presbyterian Hospital of the City of New York.
In 1989, Dr. Morales began her academic career by joining the faculty of the Division of General Medicine at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. During her tenure there, she demonstrated a strong dedication to medical education, serving as an Assistant Division Director for Education and Training. She played a pivotal role in coordinating primary care educational initiatives and co-directed a student course focused on the crucial psychosocial aspects of medicine, highlighting her holistic approach to medical training.
Continuing her impactful career, Dr. Morales transitioned to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell faculty in 1998. Currently holding the position of Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Associate Chair for Educational Affairs in the Department of Medicine, she continues to shape the future of medical professionals. Her leadership extends to her role as the Associate Director of the Housestaff Training Program, where she directly influences the development of future doctors.
Dr. Morales’s influence extends beyond her institutional roles. She served on the governing Council of the Society of General Internal Medicine from 2000 to 2003 and contributed to national health initiatives as a member of the Commonwealth Fund’s “Bettering the Health of Minority Americans” Advisory Board. Her expertise is further recognized through her membership on the Advisory Committee of the Columbia University Institute on Medicine as a Profession Physician Advocacy Fellowship.
