Welcome to the world of Anarchy Online! Choosing your first profession can feel overwhelming. As a player, and someone who has spent time as a Doctor in Rubi-Ka, I want to share my personal experiences and thoughts on different classes to help you find the right fit. While any class in Anarchy Online can be approachable, mastering them and playing to their full potential is a journey. Let’s dive into some classes from my perspective, focusing on what makes them tick, and how beginner-friendly they can be.
Exploring Anarchy Online Professions
From my experience, the Martial Artist (MA) stands out as one of the most straightforward classes to pick up. Initially, I even started my Doctor with pistols, but eventually transitioned to a Martial Arts Doctor. The beauty of the MA is its simplicity – no need to worry about weapons, just pure combat skill.
Agents, on the other hand, are fascinating. My first high-level character was an Agent, played in the classic style, relying on Aimed Shot. When I create new Agents now, I stick to Aimed Shot, avoiding False Professions unless I’m specifically aiming for a Meta-Physicist (MP) for the healing pet. Pet classes like the Meta-Physicist and Bureaucrat present a different kind of challenge. Bureaucrats might be slightly easier to start with in the pet class category. MPs, while initially feeling like you are fighting alongside your pet, become incredibly engaging later on. Once you reach mid-levels and beyond, commanding your pet army and watching the battle unfold while you strategize is a unique and rewarding playstyle.
I have less experience with the Engineer, so I can’t offer much detailed insight into that profession. Similarly, the Trader remains a class I struggle with, despite my repeated attempts to master it. I admire Traders, but playing one effectively has always been elusive for me.
The Adventurer class is often described as a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. While they are considered easy to play, I personally find I perform better as an Adventurer than as a Trader, highlighting the subjective nature of class difficulty.
Fixers are incredibly fun and dynamic. Their powerful Long HOT (Heal Over Time), a Nanotechnician (NT) ability, is highly sought after by other players, making Fixers valuable in team settings. Like Agents, Nanotechnicians (NTs) can be seen as “glass cannons,” but instead of ranged damage, they are the magic nukers of Anarchy Online, dealing massive burst damage.
My time with the Soldier class has been limited, perhaps only reaching level 20 or so. For me, they felt somewhat monotonous. Enforcers, however, are enjoyable at lower levels. They embody the tank role, a mix of brute force and crowd control – think “Hulk smash” meets “get over here!” Fun in concept, but not my preferred long-term playstyle. It has been too long since I last played a Keeper to give a fresh perspective, and Shades are the stealthy assassins of Anarchy Online, offering a different kind of gameplay.
Beginner-Friendly Classes: It Depends on the Player
It’s worth noting that “beginner-friendly” is subjective. What feels easy depends heavily on your individual playstyle and how quickly you grasp a class’s mechanics. For me, I picked up the Agent relatively quickly, but the Trader and pet classes were more challenging. Martial Artist and Adventurer are generally considered very beginner-friendly starting points.
Ultimately, all classes in Anarchy Online start relatively accessible to new players. The complexities and nuances of each profession tend to emerge later in the game. So, jump in, experiment, and find the class that resonates with your playstyle and enjoy the journey through Rubi-Ka!
