The ongoing investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has taken a new turn. The parents of the young doctor, who was found dead on August 9th, have informed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that they believe their daughter’s colleagues, including interns and physicians at the same hospital, were involved in the heinous crime.
This revelation comes as the CBI officially took over the probe, following an order from the Calcutta High Court. The parents have reportedly provided the CBI with a list of names of individuals they suspect are connected to their daughter’s death within the state-run medical facility.
According to a CBI officer, the parents expressed their conviction that more than one person was involved in the sexual assault and murder. The names provided to the investigating agency are said to be of interns and doctors who worked alongside the victim at RG Kar Hospital. This information is now a critical focus of the CBI’s inquiry as they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this disturbing case.
The CBI’s investigation is prioritizing the questioning of doctors and Kolkata Police officers who were initially involved in the case. Sources within the CBI indicate that a list of at least 30 individuals has been compiled for questioning. The interrogation process has already commenced, with summons issued to a house staff member and two post-graduate trainees (PGTs) who were on duty the night of the incident.
Further actions taken by the CBI include summoning the officer-in-charge of the Tala Police Station, who was among the first responders to the incident. Additionally, the civic volunteer who was previously arrested in connection with the case was taken back to RG Kar Hospital by the CBI to reconstruct the crime scene.
The body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered in the hospital’s seminar room. While an initial arrest was made, the parents’ allegations of colleague involvement add a significant layer of complexity to the investigation. The CBI’s focus now includes thoroughly examining these new leads and determining the extent of any potential involvement of hospital staff in this deeply unsettling Kolkata doctor case.
