Big Finish Productions has announced a thrilling new audio drama box set featuring Jacob Dudman reprising his role as the Twelfth Doctor. This exciting installment sees the Doctor swept into the clandestine world of the Time Agency, alongside time agent Keira Sanstrom, once again portrayed by Bhavnisha Parmar.
Producer Alfie Shaw revealed that this audio drama adopts a mini-series structure, similar to Timejacked!, presenting three interconnected adventures. “The Doctor is once again swept up in the world of time agent Keira Sanstrom and, this time, he’s been inducted into the Time Agency! It’s a similar mini-series structure, like the one we used in Timejacked! with three distinct adventures that lead directly into each other,” Shaw explained, hinting at the escalating stakes and intertwined narratives that await listeners.
For Jacob Dudman, this box set marks a poignant conclusion to his tenure as the Twelfth Doctor in audio form. “It’s been a really fun end to an era. It’s bittersweet hanging up the sonic glasses. I’m very honoured to have done it. I’ve been learning to enjoy playing the Twelfth Doctor as we’ve done these and feel like I’ve fallen in love with him through doing it,” Dudman shared, expressing both gratitude and affection for the role he has embodied. His performance promises to be a highlight for fans of the Twelfth Doctor.
Script editor Max Kashevsky praised Dudman’s evolving portrayal of the iconic Time Lord. “We’re so happy that Jake agreed to come back as the Twelfth Doctor for this last box set. Every time he comes through that door, he gets better and better. He totally gets this Doctor.” Kashevsky further emphasized the tailored nature of the stories, designed to challenge Dudman’s acting range. “All three of these stories were precision engineered to push Jake to his limits as a performer, and he really took it on,” he added, suggesting a dynamic and demanding performance from Dudman as the twelfth doctor.
Kashevsky also elaborated on the dynamic between the Doctor and Keira Sanstrom, noting Keira’s growth since her previous encounter in Timejacked!. “Keira’s grown a lot since the last time we encountered her in Timejacked!. She had a lot to learn there, but this time, they’re on a much more even footing, and actually it’s the Doctor who starts off on the back foot. Keira’s world, the world of the Time Agency, butts heads with how a Doctor Who story is supposed to work, so you get this hilarious push and pull between them.” This contrasting dynamic promises to inject both humor and tension into the narrative as the twelfth doctor navigates Keira’s established world.
Bhavnisha Parmar echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shifting power dynamics between the characters. “There’s a lot going on with the power play between the Doctor and Keira, a lot more excitement, as well as more humour, detail and nuance. With the other scripts we’ve done, she’s always had a sense of vulnerability about her, that she’s new and naive, and now these stories give her a sense of power and poise, and put her in a really confident space. It’s always nice to give the Doctor a match,” Parmar stated, teasing a more assertive and compelling Keira Sanstrom who will challenge the Twelfth Doctor in unexpected ways.
