Discovering Authentic Peruvian Flavors at Doctor Limón Kendall

Craving an explosion of flavors? My recent visit to Doctor Limón Ceviche Bar in Kendall was nothing short of a culinary adventure. Bringing my little foodie along, we were ready to dive into the vibrant world of Peruvian cuisine, and Doctor Limón did not disappoint. Known for their fresh ceviches and traditional dishes, this spot is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Peru right here in Miami.

Our exploration began with the Diagnóstico Reservado Ceviche, and from the first bite, I knew we were in for a treat. This ceviche was a revelation – a harmonious blend of red pepper and ginger that created an unforgettable flavor profile. The seafood, a delightful mix of fish, octopus, shrimp, and calamari (ceviche mixto), was incredibly tender and tasted impeccably fresh. The Leche de Tigre, the heart of any great ceviche, was simply divine. Its refreshing and heavenly taste was so captivating that I even took some home to savor later. The textures were perfectly balanced, with soft seafood complemented by a pleasant crunch. It’s safe to say, this was hands down the best ceviche I’ve had in years, and it immediately amplified my appreciation for Peruvian cuisine.

Next up was the Doctor Miyagi Ceviche, another standout dish that showcased the innovative spirit of Doctor Limón. Infused with sesame oil and a Nikkei sauce, and topped with crispy sweet potato, this ceviche was pure magic. The sesame oil was prominent, adding a rich, nutty dimension that perfectly complemented the fresh seafood and tangy Nikkei sauce. Each spoonful was a delightful journey of flavors and textures, proving why Doctor Limón is a true gem in Kendall’s culinary scene.

When my little one spotted Pork Belly on the menu, her eyes lit up, and we knew we had to try it. What arrived was a generous portion of slow-roasted pork belly, beautifully presented on a bed of creamy pepián (Peruvian polenta) and drizzled with an oriental sauce. The pepián was delicate and luxurious, providing a perfect creamy base for the rich pork belly. The pork belly itself was cooked to perfection – incredibly tender with a delightful texture and deep, savory flavor. The presentation was also noteworthy, a colorful and appetizing plate that was almost too pretty to eat…almost!

While most dishes were exceptional, the El Loco Calato Ceviche didn’t quite reach the same heights. It featured fried ceviche balls with a strong lime flavor, served with lettuce and onions. The lime was a bit overpowering, lacking the subtlety and balance of the other ceviches. It wasn’t unpleasant, but compared to the flavor bombs of the Diagnóstico Reservado and Doctor Miyagi, it was a bit underwhelming.

We also sampled the Lomo Saltado, a classic Peruvian stir-fry. This version, with Angus beef, onions, tomatoes, and French fries (ordered on the side), was good but not exceptional. The beef was a tad chewy, which was a slight disappointment. However, even with this minor issue, the leftovers were still thoroughly enjoyed later at home, a testament to the overall quality of the dish.

For dessert, we indulged in the Crema Volteada, a Peruvian flan. Initially, my little one was hoping for chocolate, but one taste of this rich and lush flan changed everything. It quickly turned into a playful competition of who could get the most flan on their spoon! The Crema Volteada was the perfect sweet ending to our Peruvian feast.
