Dr. Armen Simonian has been a dedicated member of the Capital Health medical team since 1996, bringing decades of experience in gastroenterology to patients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His commitment to digestive health is evident through his extensive career and leadership roles within Capital Health and the wider medical community.
Prior to his current role at Capital Health – Gastroenterology Specialists, Dr. Simonian was a valued partner at Mercer Gastroenterology, further establishing his presence in the region. His leadership within Capital Health is significant, having served as the former Chairperson for the Department of Medicine. This experience underscores his deep understanding of hospital operations and patient care management.
Dr. Simonian’s medical journey began at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, NJ, where he earned his medical degree. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. His specialized training in gastroenterology and liver diseases was completed through a fellowship at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden. These rigorous academic and clinical experiences have solidified his expertise in the field. Furthermore, he is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of medical practice.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Simonian actively contributes to the strategic direction and governance of healthcare organizations. He is a former member of the Strategic Planning Committee for Capital Health and currently serves on the board of the Mercer County Surgery Center. Within Capital Health, his involvement extends to the Medical Executive Committee and the Professional Practice Committee. He also played a key role as the physician champion for the implementation of the new electronic medical system, demonstrating his commitment to advancing healthcare technology for improved patient care. Moreover, Dr. Simonian is dedicated to medical education, serving as a teaching attending physician for the Capital Health Internal Medicine Residency Program, mentoring the next generation of physicians. His dedication to patient care has been recognized through multiple “top doc” awards in New Jersey publications, reflecting the high regard in which he is held by both peers and patients. Dr. Simonian expertly manages a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases, ensuring comprehensive care for his patients.
Currently, Dr. Simonian holds the important position of Medical Director of the Center for Digestive Health at Capital Health and is the former Chief of Gastroenterology. In his role as Medical Director, he provides crucial guidance to referring physicians and patients, ensuring they access the most appropriate and advanced digestive health services available at Capital Health. As a board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Simonian offers expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions affecting the digestive system, including both benign and malignant disorders of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, biliary tract, liver, small bowel, and colon.
