The curriculum requires a minimum of 60 credits, with the possibility of additional credits to fully support dissertation research. Any additional coursework will be carefully aligned with the university’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Maximum Time to Completion policies to ensure student success.

Foundational courses provide a bedrock of knowledge and are distinct from specialization and elective courses. Students pursuing a specialization must complete at least 15 credit hours in their chosen area at NU (excluding foundational courses). Alternatively, students may opt for a General Business specialization by selecting 15 credit hours of relevant cross-disciplinary courses. All electives must be directly relevant to the student’s degree objectives.

The PhD-BA program mandates a minimum of five core courses, five specialization courses, two statistics courses, five research-focused courses, and one doctoral elective. Upon completing these coursework requirements, students advance to the dissertation phase, which includes a minimum of four dissertation research courses.

The foundational courses must be taken first and in a prescribed sequence. For students on the evaluation track, SKS-7001 is taken after BUS-7101 and before BUS-7110. Specialization, research, and doctoral elective courses are also sequenced to build progressively upon prior learning.
